Laser Hair Removal

Did you know that laser hair removal is the fourth most popular non-invasive aesthetic procedure in the U.S.? Over one million people underwent this FDA-approved treatment in 2019, and nearly 87% were satisfied with their results and would do it again.

At Senza Aesthetic Medicine, our team uses the most advanced lasers available to reduce the amount of hair on almost any area of the body. In fact, we’re able to treat any skin type and hair color, and we specialize in treating darker skin tones and larger spot sizes in less time using the SPLENDOR X laser hair removal device by Lumenis.

A non-invasive light therapy, laser hair removal is designed to safely eliminate unwanted hair from all parts of the body without damaging the skin. SPLENDOR X generates a pulse of concentrated laser energy that is gently applied to the treatment site. Each pulse of the laser lasts only a fraction of a second and treats the hair follicle and bulb as one complete unit. The energy passes through the skin into the hair follicle, where it is absorbed by the pigment. The absorbed light energy is then converted to heat, which damages or destroys the hair root, rendering it unable to resume growth.

BLEND X™: Hybrid Laser Technology

The SPLENDOR X uses BLEND X technology, which means it’s a hybrid laser that delivers synchronized Nd:YAG (1064nm) and Alexandrite (755nm) wavelengths. This allows us to customize the laser hair removal treatment for a variety of skin tones.

Square-Shaped Laser Delivery

The SPLENDOR X delivers laser energy in a square spot size, which provides more uniform skin coverage and eliminates overlapping treatment areas to reduce hotspots.

Laser Hair Removal Before & After Photos

With laser energy delivered by the SPLENDOR X, we can destroy nearly any unwanted hair follicle. The areas we can treat include the back, legs (upper and lower), arms, underarms and bikini line. We do not treat the areas around the eyes, moles with hair follicles and any space with tattoos.

Laser Hair Removal FAQ's

How does laser hair removal compare to manual methods?

All manual methods of hair removal (such as waxing, shaving, plucking and threading) are harsh on the skin and can cause sagging or stretching. These methods also leave the hair follicle intact so that hair continues to grow, whereas only laser hair removal can directly treat the hair follicle and provide long-term hair reduction. Laser hair removal treatment is fast and can cover larger areas and multiple hair follicles.

What kind of results can I expect?

Laser hair removal requires a series of treatments, so be aware that it can be months before you see your final results. While these treatments do not offer perfect results, we can eliminate a significant amount of unwanted hair during each session. Additionally, some areas will require more attention because of the thickness and amount of hair. Once you’ve reached your goal, occasional touch-up treatments may be necessary to maintain your smooth results.

How many laser treatments are required?

Most patients will need five to seven treatments in any given area, spaced six to eight weeks apart. There will be some variations in response to the procedure, as no two patients are alike. Also, certain areas like the bikini line and underarms respond better than others. Patients should understand that once they’ve completed their initial treatments, they will need to schedule maintenance treatments once or twice per year.

Does hair thickness and color make a difference?

Thicker, darker hair on lighter skin achieves the best results from the laser, although the SPLENDOR X allows us to successfully treat a variety of skin pigments.

What are the risks?

High-performance laser systems such as the SPLENDOR X have made laser hair removal safer than ever before. Nevertheless, there is always the risk of complications. Possible reactions or risks include:

  • Skin irritation
  • Hyperpigmentation (dark spots)
  • Blistering
  • Hypopigmentation (light spots)
  • Burns

Complications with laser hair removal are rare, and any side effects are resolved in a matter of days. At Senza, our technicians are expertly trained in advanced laser hair removal techniques and can address any questions or concerns you might have.

I have dark skin. Am I still a candidate for laser hair removal?

Yes, we offer laser hair removal treatments for all skin types. In the world of aesthetic treatments, there have been major breakthroughs that allow for improved, long-term results for all skin pigments.

If I am pregnant, can I still have laser hair treatments?

At Senza we do not treat pregnant patients, although it is technically safe to do so.

Is there anything I need to avoid before and after treatment?

As with any laser skin treatment, we recommend reducing sunlight exposure as much as possible up to two weeks before and after. You also should not attempt to remove any hair before treatment by plucking or waxing. Natural hair growth will need to continue so that we can reach all hair in anaphase, and not all hair will be at the same level of growth in the first treatment.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

There is some discomfort with laser hair removal treatments, and some patients respond better than others. At Senza, we apply a topical cream to numb the skin before treatment. Treatments are relatively fast – underarm and chin or lip areas take a couple of minutes, while the bikini area takes 10 minutes at most.

How much recovery time can I expect?

The best thing about laser hair removal treatments is that you won’t need any recovery time, nor are there usually any visible side effects. Many treatments are done during a patient’s lunch hour, allowing them to return to their regular activities immediately after.
