How laser hair removal works

Prep
Shave the area the day before. Numbing cream can be applied for comfort.

Targeted pulses
Laser energy passes through the skin and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair, heating and disabling the root.

Hair sheds
Over the next 1 to 3 weeks, treated hairs fall out. There is no downtime.

Repeat the series
Hair grows in cycles, so a series of treatments catches every follicle in its growth phase.

Who is a good candidate
Laser hair removal works for most people who are tired of shaving and waxing, on almost any area of the body. Dark hair responds best. The Splendor X lets us treat every skin type, including darker skin.
Very light blond, gray, white or red hair has little pigment and responds poorly. We do not treat during pregnancy. Avoid tanning and sun exposure for two weeks before and after each session.

Shave, don’t wax
The laser needs the hair root in place to work. Stop waxing, plucking and threading a few weeks before treatment, and shave the area the day before your visit.

Laser Hair Removal FAQ
Is laser hair removal permanent?
It gives long-term hair reduction. Most treated hair does not grow back, and what does return is usually finer and lighter. Many people come in for a touch-up once or twice a year.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people need 5 to 7 sessions per area, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart. Underarms and bikini often respond fastest.
Does it hurt?
Most people describe a quick snap, like a rubber band. We can apply numbing cream first, and each session is fast.
Can you treat darker skin?
Yes. The Splendor X includes a 1064 nm wavelength that safely treats darker skin tones.
Do you treat men?
Yes. Back, chest, shoulders, neck and beard line are common areas for men.
What are the risks?
Side effects are uncommon and usually brief: redness, irritation, and rarely blistering or temporary light or dark spots. Avoiding sun before and after lowers the risk.
