JUVÉDERM® Voluma XC

In addition to fine lines, wrinkles and dark spots, mid-face volume loss is another common change that affects the aging face. As a result, your cheeks may look flattened, and the overlying skin can begin to sag. This not only leads to a sad and “droopy” appearance, but it can make smile lines and tear troughs more prominent.

In the past, facial volume loss was usually treated with implants or fat injections. Today, the preferred treatment for many patients is minimally-invasive dermal filler injections like JUVÉDERM® Voluma XC. This in-office procedure creates subtle enhancement of the mid-face and surrounding areas. Voluma allows us to subtly and temporarily lift the mid-face area while also improving the appearance of smile lines and tear troughs.

If you are interested in learning more about how Voluma can help add volume and lift to your mid-face, call Senza Aesthetic Medicine at 909-793-3563. Together, we can work on transforming your outer appearance to reflect your inner vibrance and beauty.

What Is Voluma?

Voluma is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler developed by Allergan Aesthetics. HA is a sugar molecule normally found in the skin and connective tissue that works as a natural humectant, meaning it attracts and holds on to water molecules. Because this ingredient is naturally found in your body, HA injections like Voluma are usually well-tolerated.

Furthermore, Voluma is the only FDA-approved filler for the treatment of mid-face volume loss in anyone over the age of 21. The product is injected directly and deeply into the cheeks to add volume beneath the skin’s surface temporarily. This creates a smoother and fuller contour for the cheeks and improves the appearance of nasolabial folds, wrinkles and tear troughs.

What is unique about this particular HA filler is that it is made using cross-linking technology called Vycross. Vycross helps stabilize the HA molecules in Voluma so that your body breaks them down slowly and your results last longer.

JUVÉDERM® Voluma XC FAQ's

How Many Syringes of Voluma Will I Need?

The number of syringes you will need depends on the severity of your mid-face volume loss and your goals. Most clients need between two and four syringes to achieve their desired results, which breaks down into one to two syringes per cheek.

How Do I Prepare for a Voluma Treatment?

Preparation for Voluma is minimal since this is a minimally invasive, in-office procedure. We typically advise patients to temporarily discontinue blood-thinning medications and supplements in the days leading up to their appointment. These may include NSAIDs, vitamin E, fish oil and turmeric. You can also streamline your appointment by arriving makeup-free since we’ll need to clean your face for your treatment.

What Can I Expect During My Voluma Treatment?

We will first cleanse your face and apply numbing cream if you are pain-sensitive. Once the numbing cream kicks in, we will apply an antiseptic to your skin and inject the product deeply into your cheeks. The numbing cream and lidocaine in the product will significantly minimize any discomfort. The whole treatment session should be over in 30 minutes or less, and you’ll be able to return to your routine as usual.

How Soon Will I See My Voluma results?

You’ll notice a difference in your appearance instantly. However, it can take a couple of weeks to see the full effect of this treatment as the product settles.

How Long Do the Results From Voluma Typically Last?

You may enjoy your results from this injectable for up to two years, and perhaps even longer. The cross-linked HA in this filler is harder to break down by the body, resulting in a long-lasting effect of several years.

How Much Does Voluma Cost?

Your treatment cost will depend on the number of syringes you need to achieve your desired results. On average, Voluma is available for $800 to $1,000 per syringe.

Are There Any Side Effects With Voluma?

When performed by a skilled and licensed injector, this treatment is safe and side effects are kept to a minimum. Minor side effects with this treatment include bruising and mild redness. Rarely, clients may develop an allergic reaction to ingredients in the product or experience filler migration.
