Ultrasound Diagnosis
Treatment Information
Getting an accurate diagnosis is crucial in treating venous insufficiency. One of the most effective tools to assist the doctor with their diagnosis is ultrasound. Having an ultrasound machine in the office is essential. We use a GE ultrasound and have a very experienced sonographer that performs all of our venous reflux studies. We also use a Hokanson rapid inflation system to accurately pinpoint points of reflux in the leg veins.
One of the most common complaints in our office is from patients that have had treatments on their legs elsewhere and after several treatments there were no appreciable results. Although there are several factors that may contribute to the treatment failure a common reason is the presence of venous reflux disease that has gone undiagnosed. For that reason it is important to obtain an accurate diagnosis with ultrasound.
After your initial consultation, the physician will usually suggest getting a complete venous reflux study to determine if you have venous reflux disease. With this information, the doctor can most effectively decide on your treatment options.
